About the 2019 Spring Texas Art Auction

The David Dike Fine Art, Spring Texas Art Auction was a festive and successful fine art auction, which took place on Saturday, April 6, 2019 at Wildman Art Framing. The crowd was filled with interested and dedicated Texas Art enthusiasts. Several first-time buyers were present and active at the sale as well.

The auction sold 88% of the 255 available lots. The top selling lot in the sale was the Julian Onderdonk painting titled Road Through the Trees painted in 1913-1914, which sold for $384,000. The second highest selling work in the sale was lot 127, by Porfirio Salinas titled Cactus in the Hill Country, which sold for $120,000, a new auction record for the artist. Prior to this, the previous the previous record auction sale for Salinas was at the David Dike Fine Art, Texas Art Auction in October 2018; a bluebonnet painting titled Texas Hill Country Spring which sold for $90,000. Another top selling lot in the sale was lot 124, the Florence McClung titled, Dallas executed in 1930, it sold for $72,000. A Florence McClung of similar subject matter, however a much larger work and tighter regional style sold in our October 2018 sale for an auction record-breaking $252,000. A jewel of the sale was lot 146 by Dallas’ own Reveau Bassett titled Ducks in Flight which sold for $39,600.

This spring auction featured the collection of Dallas landscape architect and Texas fine art collector, John Stone, 96% of the lots in his collection sold.
