Cecilia Steinfeldt

 (Am. 1915-2013)

San Antonio. Painter, illustrator, graphic artist, administrator, teacher, art historian, writer, craftswoman. Born in Montello, Wisconsin, Steinfeldt studied at the art school of the Witte Memorial Museum, San Antonio, under Ruby DuGosh, Rudolph Staffel, Carlos Merida, and Henry Lee McFee. Steinfeldt joined the staff of the Witte in 1926, became museum curator in 1960, and was senior curator in the 1990s. She taught at the Witte and authored several works relating to Texas artists and collections, including Texas Folk Art: One Hundred Fifty Years of the Southwestern Tradition (Austin: Texas Monthly Press. 1981) and Art for History’s Sake: The Texas Collection of the Witte Museum (Austin: Texas State Historical Association, 1993). Steinfeldt resides in San Antonio with her husband, Eric Steinfeldt.
