Josephine Mahaffey

 (AM. 1903-1982)

The following information was submitted in September of 2006 by Linda Patterson: This mother of eight raised her family in Ft. Worth Texas. She studied art at the College of Industrial Arts, Denton, Texas. She taught art for years around Ft. Worth at the Boy’s Club, Woman’s Club, Public Health Service Hospital, YWCA, and at her art gallery in Azle, Texas. In 1968, she was honored at the State Fair of Texas with a Josephine Mahaffey Day. The same year, she received the President’s Award from the Comoposers, Authors and Artists of America for 50 years of service. She loved life and could finish a painting in under 15 minutes. Her kids all remember her painting on anything that wasn’t nailed down – cardboard, wrapping, backs of Christmas Cards and of course her serious work. Her art has been exhibited at the Corcoran Gallery, Washington DC, Fort Worth Art Center and the Heritage Hall, Fort Worth.
