Sallie Doke

  (Am. 1872-1953)

Born in Keachie, Louisiana, Doke lived in Corsicana (1915 – 1916), Alma (1917), Rice (1918), and subsequently in Lometa and Lampasas in the early 1920s. She served on the art committee of the Texas Federation of Women’s Clubs (1915 – 1917) before moving to Shreveport, Louisiana (1926). Doke studied at the Chicago Academy of Fine Arts and the Art Academy of Cincinnati. She apparently signed her paintings “George Doke”. She died in Pineville, Louisiana.
