JESSIE W. PETTY (AM. 1886-1974)

Petty was born in Navasota. She married a U.S. Army officer and accompanied him on his assignments to various posts, including Fort Sam Houston San Antonio. She attended the California School of fine Arts, San Francisco, and was a student of Xavier Gonzalez, Jose Arpa, Harry Anthony De Young, Gottardo F.P. Piazzoni, and Minna Wright Citron. In San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, she received instruction from James Pinto, Jack Baldwin, Judy Martin and Phoebe Flory. In 1930 she moved from San Antonio to Douglas, Arizona, then returned later in life to San Antonio. Petty died in the city and was buried at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
